GETTING YOUR FINGERS WET: How to Use the Mouse Those of you who have never used a mouse before might already be feeling queasy about all this clicking and so forth. So before we go any further, let's discuss how you use a mouse. First, just place your hand comfortably over the mouse with your index finger resting gently on (not pushing on) the leftmost (primary) mouse button. Grasp the sides of the mouse between your thumb on one side and the middle, ring and little finger on the other side. Stay clear of the right button, unless directed to use it. The things you do with the mouse are summarized below. Point: Move the mouse pointer so it's touching something on the screen. Click: Point (not your finger, but the mouse pointer) to something, then press and release the leftmost mouse button. Double-click: Point to something and click the leftmost mouse button twice in rapid succession. Usually this activates the object. Do not move the mouse while doing this. Drag: Point to something and hold down the mouse button while moving the mouse. Right click: When you accidentally right-click on something, it opens a list of possible actions for the object. If you don't want to do any of the things listed, move the mouse pointer to an empty area and left click there to turn off the list. DO NOT click inside the list. HAPPY CLICKING!
