The CG includes some 35 members of whom about 25 are very actively involved and could be expected to make regular use of sophisticated computers, if they were available. Their interests cover word processing, spread sheets, graphics, computer programming, and communications. Many of the residents have computer-literate children and grandchildren, and they particularly wish to access the INTERNET and World Wide Web (WWW), in order to communicate and exchange information with members of their families. An early survey of residents enrolled in a one-session introductory presentation on the use of computers showed that they are interested in many different computer applications. The responses of 29 attendees provide the following percentage breakdown: 52% word processing, 45% spread sheets, 41% computer operating systems, 34% tracking investments, 28% programming or modelling, 17% INTERNET or E-Mail, 14% games, 14% graphics or desk top publishing. There has been and explosive growth of the INTERNET since the survey, and undoubtedly many more residents are now interested in this option than so indicated on the survey.
